History of the Caipirinha Cocktail

This traditional Brazilian drink is well-known in the whole country, particularly at the beach. Legend has it that the cocktail ( at first made with Cachaca ) was produced in 1918 by a bartender from Sao Paolo as a remedy for the flue. Once the epidemic weakened, folks continued to consume Caipirinha not just for its vitamins and its strength, but also for its delicious flavor. As an appetizer it has always been seen as relaxing. The cocktail can be offered to go with 'feijoada', a standard dish available every Wednesday and Saturday in Brazilian restaurants .
