  • 4 ice cubes
  • 2 fluid ounces rum
  • 4 fluid ounces cola
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, or to taste
  • ice

History of the Classic Cuba Libre Cocktail

One tale goes that at the time of the Spanish-American War, several off-duty U .S . soldiers got together for several drinks in a bar in Old Havana . A captain came in and requested for rum and cola on ice with lime . He loved it so much that he got the attention of the soldiers , who ordered an additional round and toasted "Por Cuba Libre !" in celebration of Cuba's newfound independence
